Since I was young I have loved to lay in the sun and get a nice tan in the summer. Having grown up with a pool I did this a lot. In the winter I would go to a tanning bed. Not religiously but for special occasions and such. Well, a mole I've had on my ankle since I can remember started to change slightly. After keeping and eye on it for a couple years and putting off going to a doctor I finally decided it was smart to just have it checked out. After all its probably nothing.
So, at the beginning of this summer I made the appointment with a dermatologist. I told her about the concern I had with the one on my ankle. I also told her I have had it since I was very young. She took a look at it and said it has to come off today! She proceeded to check my entire body and found one more that needed to be take off on my side.
My nerves were crazy waiting for the results. When the phone call finally came they told me the one on my side is non cancerous and they will just keep and eye on. As for the one on my ankle, it does has irregular(pre-cancer) cells that could turn cancerous down the road. Mrs. Bongiorno we need to schedule surgery to have all those cells removed to eliminate the risk. I agreed and made the appointment.
A couple weeks went by and I decided I am healthy right? My body will fight off all the cancer cells and produce healthy cells right? Plus, I will monitor it myself and if the mole starts to come back I will get it rechecked or then have it removed. So, I called to cancel my appointment and told the nurse my plan. She was very concerned with it. She told me if it does turn cancerous the mole may not come back to the surface. It may just grow deeper in my foot. That is all she had to say and I kept my appointment : )
I did some research and found and essential oil called frankincense. This oil is said to cure cancer........what cure cancer? I did more reading on this and decided to be my own experiment and start using it on my ankle and see if by the time I have my surgery any of the pre-cancerous cells are gone. I have been putting this on my ankle for 5 days now. Check out the pictures below and see the difference in just 5 days. I wish I started this weeks ago.
What is did was buy the oil and mix 2 drop in about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. I have been applying this to the area 3 times a day.
This Friday, October 3 is my surgery to have them cut and remove all the bad cells. I am not looking forward to it. I will not be able to workout or do anything strenuous for 2 weeks due to having stitches. For those of you who know me that is painful enough : )
But, 2 weeks of inconvenience is better than months of chemo therapy or even death.
Here is just one of the links to learn more about this essential oil:
http://www.sustainablebabysteps.com/frankincense-essential-oil.html
Do your research to see if this is something that will work for you!!
The Start!
I started this blog because I am fed up with all the toxins we are living around. Toxins that make us and our loved ones sick. I want to find ways to live healthier with less toxins and find natural, homemade recipes to lessen all the toxins. By doing this I can inform others and help them live healthier lives.

VOTE HERE.........
FREE PERSONAL TRAINING CONTEST
VOTE HERE
Ok, its time to vote for who you think should win 2 months of Free Personal Training with me. All you have to do is read the entries and in the comment section below put the entry # you would like to see win. If you don't have a google account you can change it to anonymous vote!
AND THE ENTRIES ARE.................
1) My
husband has been deployed with the National Guard since the start of summer.
While he has been away he has told me about how much weight he has lost AND how
he now spends an average of at least 2 hours each day working out and,
"getting buff," as he happily put it.
He is due
to return around the end of April. While he has been away I have been home with
3 kids and have gained atleast 10 pounds. I know that part of the
reason I am eating more is because I am so stressed out and lonely while
he is away. For about 3 months of the time that he has been away
I followed a vegan and then vegetarian diet trying to
be healthier. But have returned to my poor eating and exercise habits.
My
biggest fear is that he will come back in the spring and be all sexy, looking
like he is 23 again and I will be a rotundous woman sporting
an unsightly muffin top. What a dissapointment that would be for
him!! I should win the 2 months of training so that my buff,
soldier husband can come home to a hot-bodied wife...or atleast more
attractive wife!
2) I am a 40 year old working mother of 3.
I have struggled with my weight since college. I have never really had a weight
problem until then. I was an athlete in high school and was in great shape.
Swimming, softball, cheerleading and skiing, I was very active. I never really
paid mind to what I ate, as I was so active it didn't seem to matter.
It all started my freshman year of college. I
gained the typical freshman 20 and then was diagnosed with thyroid disease. Not
doing any of my sports the pounds started to pack on. Three children and 20
pounds from each child hanging on I can't seem to loose it. My oldest is almost
16 so I can't call it baby fat anymore. I have lost as much as 25 pounds before
but then gained it back and then some.
I have tried every type of diet known to man. I
don't want that anymore, no diets. I want a life style change. I am addicted to
sugar and carbohydrates and I don't know how to stop.
When I look in the mirror I don't recognize the
person staring back at me. I am not that person inside. My bones are starting
to ache and I am starting to slow down due to all of this excess weight that I
am carrying around. I don't want this anymore but I don't know how to change
it. I don't know how to stop eating sugar. I don't know how to teach my kids
how to eat healthy.
I think this is my last chance to change my
life. I am motivated and willing to learn. I just need the help and opportunity
for someone to teach me. I don't want diabetes, high blood pressure and high
cholesterol that I know I am headed for.
I am a health care provider, but don't even know
how to help myself. Please choose me so that Brooke can teach me how to eat
healthier, say no to sugar and teach my family how to be health too.
3) I would to be
considered for this as i have been succrssful in losing weight in the past but
over the last 4 years I have gained about 60 pounds. Years ago I had a tummy
tuck done but currently only have the scar to prove it . I am the dad to two beautiful girls
and really want to be in shape to play with them. I'm open to weighing in,
measurements, etc. thank you for the consideration
4) I was always a health conscious person and then I was
diagnosed with a serious medical condition 8 years ago. It was a diagnosis that
would change my life in more ways than one. I was truly one of the
"lucky" people who could eat pretty much whatever I wanted and not
gain weight. I still worked out 3-4 times per week anyway to stay healthy. When
I received my health diagnosis in 2004, things changed rapidly. I lost my get
up and go and gained 20 lbs in 3 months! It was traumatizing. I know in the
grand scheme of things gaining 20 lbs is not the end of the world. However, to
me my life was being altered and I felt completely out of control. I limited my
caloric intake to 1500 per my doctors recommendation. I tried to continue some
sort of exercise even when I felt like the life was being sucked out of me.
Over years since 2004, I've struggled with my weight fluctuating 15-20 lbs no
matter what I did. I had another health crisis that required surgery over a
year ago. The frustration of another health issue and my weight gain of 25 lbs
was overwhelming. I lost all motivation and have yet to get it back 18 months
later. I haven't joined a gym because of the embarrassment that I feel. It's
depressing to have a closet full of clothes that I can no longer wear. I would
love to get my motivation back, be healthy, lose this unnecessary weight, feel
better about myself, have more energy, & BONUS look amazing!
5)I am interested in your personal training program because I have had a gastric bypass 8 years ago and a medication I was put on has made me gain 50 lbs. I have tried to lose it through exercise and the amount of diet I am capable of doing due to the amount of food I can consume. It should not be difficult for the weight to come off, but medical conditions have plagued me more than I can stand. I would love to lose 60 lbs. I am currently 179 lbs. The lowest I ever got down to after my surgery was 135 lbs. I am not sure if I qualify for your program, but if I do I would be honored to participate

Carbs for energy
Most of you heard of the low to no carb diets right?.....Well I'm here to tell you do not cut carbs out of your diet. Sure you might lose some wieght by doing it but its not a healthy way. It is a short term diet and afterwards you will just gain the weight back. To lose weight the correct way you must make a healthy change in your diet by adding healthy well balanced foods......not taking them away.
Now I'm not talking about going out and eating a whole bunch of unhealthy carbs. The carbs I'm talking about are your whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, legumes, ect...
Your daily intake should be between 45% - 65% of carbs. (This is true if you are trying to gain or lose weight!) By taking in the correct amount of carbs you will have more energy and make your workouts more productive. After a workout it is important to replenish the supply, so within 30 min after a workout, eating a carb food is a great way to replenish the energy supply. Plus, complex carbs are high in fiber. Fiber helps collect toxins and fat to eliminate them out of your body! Fiber is known to lower cholesterol, reduce risks for certain cancers, reduce heat disease, reduce risk of diabetes......lots of benefits!
Remember there is no magic pill or diet that will make you lose weight and keep it off. It is all about the balance of nutrition you are fueling your body with. You need to feed the body to make it run efficiantly not stave it of important nutrients.

A little tip about protein!!
So most of you have heard you need to eat protein protein and more protein. You have heard to lose weight by supplementing meals with protein or to bulk up with taking in extra protein right? Well the truth is your body doesn't need lots of protein and will just get rid of the extra unwanted protein or stored it as fat!!!
Our body's like to run on carbs and fats. When you tap into your stored protein your body has to break down muscle to get the energy from protein. You don't want your body doing that!!! When you supplement your meals with a protein shake you fill up on the supplement instead of getting real food with nutrients in your body. Total protein in 1 day is a small amount .08g/kg per IDEAL body weight. Extra protein will also put strain extra strain on your kidneys. You can get your daily amount just by eating the right foods.
(Plus a lots of different brands of protein powders have toxins in them which over time will make you sick or keep you from your fitness or health goals!)
I know this is hard for a lot of you to hear but you want to eat more carbs!!! Complex carbs that is like fruits, veggies and whole grains. This is what your body really likes to make energy from. When you don't eat correctly or train your body correctly you can't get the results you are looking for. So remember protein is for muscle recovery so you don't want to take in extra because it will be stored as fat!!!

1st week of Personal Training school with picture blog
My first week of classes went great. We start the day in the classroom learning anatomy of the body and muscles. Its a lot to cram in but as the weeks pass I know it will make more and more since. It already is. We also are touching on nutrition which we will go into more as the training goes on. The second half of the day is up in the gym. The first week of gym was intense with a 12 circuit at 45 seconds each exercise with 30 second rest in-between and we had to do it twice. Let me just say they def. were not easy on us even being our first week and I loved getting my butt kicked. We are learning correct form and correct ways to workout. I am so in love with it and it is exactly what I want to be doing.
I have decided to do a picture blog from my 1st start of NPTI to the end. I want to be able to see the change and results from proper workout and eating. So here is my start pictures.

Protecting loved ones from preventable sicknesses and diseases!
Its up to us as parents to protect our children from dangers and give them the knowledge and the tools to succeed in life.....right!?? Then why is it then that we allow people to put dangerous chemicals in our everyday products which in turn is making ourselves/children sick with diseases that could have been prevented. I know a lot of people say well that is how I grew up and my parents and so on and I'm fine or they were fine.......... but things are made so different now than when we or our parents/grandparents grew up. The information is out there to back up all the findings about how bad and how much toxins are around us. It is time to make a stand and get this crap out of our products so we can all live healthier.
Check out this link and make changes to to keep your family safe and healthy. Do it now before you or a loved one gets sick from this crap that you could have prevented!
http://www.chej.org/publications/PVCGuide/PVCfree2012_1.pdf
My hope is that next time you are out shopping you make a more educated and healthier choice on the products you buy!
